Middleton Beach, Albany Middleton Beach, Albany

Named after Captain Middleton, ancestor of Kate, who arrived in 1834, bringing Governor James Stirling, the man who started the settlement at the Swan now Perth and Fremantle. Fishing is good at the jetty.

Middleton Beach is the main swimming beach of Albany. The beautiful waters attracting both visitors and locals alike. Plus it’s only a short distance from Albany City.

Frenchman Bay Beach
Frenchman Bay Beach

Frenchmans Bay so named because the French explorer Nicholas Baudin landed there in 1803 in the Geographe. A short scenic drives from Albany, good for swimming fishing and has BBQS. Very close to Whale World the Gap and the Natural Rock Bridge. So make a day of it.

Emu Point Fishing Beach

Emu Point Beach Good rock fishing

Emu Point named after the Vessel Emu that stopped there on their return to England in 1815. William Charles Wentworth who was the first person to find his way through the Blue Mountains near Sydney was on board. Emu Point Beach has sea swimming baths and is therefore one of the best place to swim if you are looking for protected waters. There are BBQ’S, a Cafe, and good rock fishing, but of course the most important feature is the Kalgan Queen goes by every day and if you book you could be on her.

Nanarup Beach

Nanarup Beach

Nanarup Beach is 30k East of Albany, [SEE MAP] if you’re not in a 4WD stop in the car park beside the toilets and walk the last 250m to the Beach, which can be good Salmon fishing. For swimming turn right on the beach and walk 400m to the pool in the Rocks. The meaning of Nanarup is unclear although some people believe it is the place where on April the 1 st 2011 in the morning Jack Jones was told his Mothers Mother was at the far end.

Gull Rock NP

Gull Rock NP

Gull Rock Beach named of course because of the large number of Gulls found on the rock just off shore, one of whom Captain Kalgan thinks might have been Jonathan Livingstone! Gull Rock is 26k East of Albany. Take the two peoples Bay road and turn right about 2k after the Kalgan Bridge. It’s a great bird watching area and can be good fishing.

The Albany region is notorious for people being lost from waves washing people off rocks while fishing. TAKE GREAT CARE! This may or may not be associated with freak waves or similar phenomenon. On the otherwise picturesque coastline there are many beaches that are safe and usable. www.fish.gov.au/ .
